Design Engineer / Design and Development Engineer – Automotive Mechanisms

Salary: Between £25,000 and £38,000, dependent on experience

The Company:

A market-leading automotive mechanism design company, with a large order book and an international presence. They currently supply a number of the largest automotive household names in the world and are on the brink of securing even more contracts, putting them in a strong position at the beginning of 2012. They already have a highly experienced and talented design team, but are looking for some new blood to come into the company and bring with them further design expertise, a can-do attitude and an innovative mindset, contributing to further development of new products and the growth of the business.

The Environment:

One of the smaller sites owned by this multi-national organisation. It’s an intimate and inviting work space, with an open floor office arrangement and a technical workshop for the design / development team.  Located in the heart of the West Midlands, with Birmingham city centre only a few miles away, close links to the buzzing towns of the Black country and close to the borders of Shropshire and Worcestershire, both of which provide beautiful countryside.

The Role:

A varied and challenging design role,  that will require you to take products from concept through to final delivery.

-          Conceptualisation

-          The generation of 2D drawings and 3D CAD Models will be a large part of the role.

-          As part of the design and development process, you will be expected to carry out full product testing (including the design of test fixtures) and the writing of technical reports.

-          You will also need to generate associated assembly drawings for any design / concept developed.

-          You will be expected to liaise with suppliers, customers and worldwide manufacturing sites.

-          In some cases you will be expected to travel overseas and aid with / resolve production issues.

What you need to have:

-       Experience in a Design (and development) engineering role

-       Preferably Automotive experience, but other backgrounds would be considered

-       A flair for coming up with new concepts

-       Experience of 3D modelling using Catia V5

-       A degree in Mechanical / Automotive engineering, or similar qualification

-       Experience in the Design of complex Automotive mechanisms

-       A good grasp of the fundamental mechanical engineering principles, including applied mathematics

-       Experience of working with electronics / electro-mechanical systems

You need to be a self motivated, dynamic and personable character, with an eye for detail.
