| Description |
The role:
This role will focus on developing rotating electrical generator technology from its current advanced prototype level to a technology readiness level that is marketable and ready for volume manufacture.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
• Lead and carry out the electromagnetic designs, analysis and requirements definition for the range of electrical machines.
• Develop and analyse various design cases using tools such as FEA, to establish performance or develop features to suit customer needs / manufacturing processes
• Participate in the optimisation of cost, efficiency, weight and output among competing design parameters
• Feed lessons learnt from current demonstrator to future products
• Work closely with other engineering disciplines, sub-contractors/industrial partners (e.g. structural, production, mechanical and thermal engineers) to develop the fully integrated and optimal total design for the client’s generators
The person:
• Electrical engineering degree (including power engineering)
• Qualifications leading to Chartered Engineer and membership of relevant Institutions.
• Experience with VectorFields, Matlab, Flux 2D software would be an advantage
• Proven track record, with at least 5 years experience in electrical engineering, working with rotating machines.
• Excellent understanding of advanced electrical machines, power electronics and Electrical Engineering.
• Detailed knowledge on the design of generators and motors including synchronous/induction machines for industrial and marine applications to the appropriate standards.
• Design experience of Permanent Magnet Machines or other novel machine topologies
• Experience of working with third party engineering firms to deliver successful engineering projects
• An enthusiastic and driven engineer that is able to work on their own initiative, with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
